Denton's Amadi finishes fifth in triple jump
After going for a personal-best 46-9 ½ at the District 5-4A meet last month, Denton triple jumper Johnson Amadi had his sights set on great things for the state meet, but Friday ended in disappointment for the Denton junior after finishing fifth in the 4A boys triple jump with a leap of 45-7.
Amadi said after spending nearly half of the year training for Friday, he was simply worn out.
“I don’t know, I guess I’m just worn out from five or six months of track,” Amadi said. “I was better earlier in the season. I just kept on degressing, and I don’t know why.”
another year left, Amadi said he’s all set to start training for next year’s state meet where he’ll hopefully peak unlike this year.
“I’ve just got to work harder and get better,” he said. “I just need to try harder I guess, I don’t know. I worked on technique for a long time. I guess it just wasn’t my day. I just didn’t have that spring I usually do.”
