Knight, who just finished his freshman season at Dallas Baptist, will play for the Colleyville LoneStars, who are managed by Greer.
The LoneStars open the season with a June 6 home game against Brazos Valley at Colleyville Heritage High School.
DBU finished the season with a 30-26 record. Knight, who was the starting shortstop, hit .338 with 43 RBIs.

Breakfast and softball

Thanks to Thursday's softball series opener between Ryan and Aledo being washed away by rain and Ryan's graduation being slated for tomorrow night, the Lady Raiders and Ladycats will open their Class 4A Region I finals series at 11 a.m. Friday at Saginaw Boswell.
Game 2 will still be at 2 p.m. Saturday, while Game 3, if necessary, will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

Second thoughts?

Argyle junior distance runner Kristie Krueger said before the state track meet that she planned to give up the 3,200 next year in favor of running the 800 and 4x400 along with the 1,600 -- her best event.

After setting state records in both the 3,200 and 1,600, Krueger may want to reconsider, and not because of her own performance but that of Canyon's Lauren Simpson.

The 3,200 and 1,600 are on different days, but the 800 and 1,600 are both run a few hours after each other. Simpson won both races in 2006 but then crashed in the 1,600 last Saturday, finishing eighth and needing to be carried off the track.

Simpson returned for the 4x400 to run the anchor leg, but she was unable to keep up with a runner from Waco La Vega and Canyon finished second, costing it the state team title by one point.

Familiar foe for Raiders

Ryan's baseball team will encounter a familiar foe as it opens the playoffs with an area series this week against Cleburne.
The Raiders beat the Yellowjackets, 5-4, on the strength of a dramatic Austin Jackson home run in the seventh inning in the Class 4A state semifinals in 2004.
Ryan (22-9) will host Cleburne at 7 p.m. Thursday in Game 1. The Yellowjackets (27-7) will host the Raiders at 7 p.m. Friday in Game 2. If necessary, Game 3 will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saginaw High School.
The Raiders, who won District 5-4A and had a first-round bye, are in the postseason for the eighth time in the last nine seasons and the seventh straight time as a Class 4A school.

Ryan looking to add to winning streak

The Ryan Lady Raider softball team would love nothing more than to see their 16-game winning streak become an 18-game winning streak this week as it takes on Fort Worth Western Hills (26-8) in a best-of-three regional quarterfinal series at Saginaw High School.
Game 1 is at 7 p.m. Thursday. Game 2 is at 2 p.m. Saturday. If neccessary, Game 3 will be 30 minutes after Game 2.
Ryan (28-5) swept Joshua last week at Saginaw with 5-3 and 11-5 victories.
In the playoffs for the first time since 1996, the Lady Raiders are also looking to advance to the regional semifinals for the first time in program history.
Ryan lost in the regional quarters (1996) and in area (1995) in its only other two postseason appearances.

Tons of area softball teams left

With regional quarterfinals week upon us in the state softball playoffs, five area teams are still alive and kicking.
Aubrey, Pilot Point, Ponder, Ryan and Sanger will all look to move on to the regional semis beginning Wednesday when Aubrey takes on Tom Bean in Game 1 of a best-of-three series at 7 p.m. in McKinney.
Pilot Point is playing a one-gamer against Celina at 7 p.m. Thursday at Prosper, while Ryan opens its best-of-three series with Fort Worth Western Hills at 7 p.m. at Saginaw. Sanger also opens its best-of-three series with an 8 p.m. game against Burkburnett at Mineral Wells Thursday, while Ponder will play Caddo Mills in another one-gamer at 6:30 p.m. at Frisco Centennial.

Rematch for Pilot Point

The Pilot Point LadyCat softball team will get another crack at District 9-3A mate Celina in a regional quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Thursday in Prosper. Celina (25-3-2) beat Pilot Point both times in district play, 10-0 and 4-0.
However, Pilot Point (21-14-1) has been on a tear of late. The LadyCats won their final two games of the regular season against Whitesboro and Princeton and have gone 4-1 in the playoffs, knocking out Royse City in three games and sweeping Lake Worth.
